Carvoeiro Area

Many of our properties are based in Carvoeiro area, which itself host 3 golf courses

Vale Do Milho (designed by Dave Thomas)

About 2km east of the town is Vale do Milho, **a par 3 nine-hole course, only 900 metres long. It is excellent for practising short irons

Quinta da Gramacho (designed by Ronald Fream)

To the west of the town is Gramacho, a well landscaped course. **Gramacho is played to 18 large double greens, giving the player a different perspective on each of the rounds. Gramacho seems to be a short course, but as matter of fact it totals 6,107 metres and it is a par 72 off the back tees, and a good challenge for whoever would like to imagine himself playing the double greens of St. Andrews.

Vale Da Pinta (designed by Ronald Fream)

To the west of the town also is Pinta, a course that has impressed many golfers that have played here, with its truly Algarvian scenery Each hole has its own character, different from all the others.  The course has a number of special holes along with an olive tree thatīs over 1500 years old.

Other Courses

The distances and times of these courses are from Carvoeiro, however where we have properties closer to the courses they will be noted.

Herdade dos Salgados (designed by Pedro de Vasconcelos)

About 25 minutes to the east of Carvoiero, near Alcantarilha, Pera and Guia is Salgados. This course is on the edge of the river, sea and a bird/nature reserve, a particular peaceful area.  **The 6,000 metre links, replete with water obstacles, is not very long, yet you will need all your skills to reach the greens. The accuracy of the drive is crucial for achieving good scores, thus making the course a pleasant experience, especially for technically-skilled player. Properties close by are Casinha Cullenagh and Casa Da Urze

Golfe de Morgado (European Golf Design)

About 20 minutes to the west of the Carvoeiro also is Morgado, a great test of golf. Very peaceful, set amongst gentle hills, a highly recommended course which is par 73, 18 holes and 6675 metres. Long and fast greens with gentle inclinations and also deep fairway bunkers are truly testing.  Casa Passaros is close to this course.

Penina (designed by Henry Cotton)

About 20 minutes to the west of Carvoiero, is Penina. This course was the first to be built in the Algarve and is world renowned.  Originally built on rice paddies, the 6439 metre long course is generally quite flat, and is set amongst mature trees and shrubs, with each of the fairways lined with tall trees. As well, drainage ditches help to define the fairways, and in some places act as tricky water hazards. There is only one par 5 on the front nine, with four on the back.  Casa Passaros is close to this course.

Alto Golf (designed by Henry Cotton)

About 25 minutes to the west of the Carvoeiro is Alto Golf,   Clude do Vau is very close to this course.  **Alto Golf it is built between two valleys, totalling 6,125 metres in length. An excellent par 5 of over 600 metres, the longest in the whole country, and probably in Europe, requires three precise strokes, avoiding a lake to reach a narrow, fast green.

There are also two new courses being built near Silves and Alcantarilha, which should be open 2007/2008, more details to follow.
